Mayank Tiwari

backend engineer

i build backends that survive the load, scale when needed, and keep state consistent.

backend engineer building systems that scale, APIs that make sense, and occasionally maxxing tokens for no good reason. usually reading, writing, or listening to the same song for the 51st time.

backend engineer

engineering card payment solutions. building AI agents to tackle pain points across engineering (obv. on-calls) and customer success. learning. breaking. shipping.

tools i reach for

hover or tap one to see what i use it for.

java my default for services that need to run for years.

notes to self

rules i keep relearning. open one for the why.

make it boring

boring technology fails in ways you already know how to fix at 3 a.m.

every retry needs jitter

synchronised clients turn a blip into an outage. randomness is a load balancer.

idempotent or it didn’t happen

if an operation can’t safely run twice, the network will eventually prove it.

measure before you cache

a cache hides a slow query, it doesn’t fix it. find the slow part first.

timeouts on everything

a call without a timeout is a thread you’ve lent out forever.

write the postmortem anyway

small incidents are cheap lessons. big ones are the same lesson, paid in full.

library

books, music and films i keep coming back to.
